A man and his son, Woo Ryong and Young Nam, come in a remote mountain community shortly after the Korean War in search of employment so they may earn enough money to travel to Seoul. Woo Ryong is permitted to perform odd jobs against the chief’s better judgement, and he quickly discovers that the community has a serious rat problem.
He strikes a deal with the chief to get rid of the rodents in the town, much like a mid-century Pied Piper, but when it comes time to collect his fee and depart, the chief betrays the father and son.
